Mission and Vision
Vision
The Department of Biology and Anatomical Sciences at Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences aspires to be a leading regional and international center of excellence in anatomical and reproductive sciences. Building on its legacy as one of the pioneering departments in Iran, we envision a future where our graduates are recognized as expert educators, innovative researchers, and highly skilled clinical embryologists. By fostering a "bench to bedside" approach, the department aims to produce patents and applied technologies that advance clinical care, particularly in the critical field of assisted reproductive technology (ART), ultimately addressing infertility challenges and improving human health both domestically and across the globe. We further envision our department as a gold standard for anatomical sciences education, ensuring that every physician, specialist, and scientist trained within our programs possesses a profound and clinically applicable mastery of human anatomy.
Mission
Our mission is to provide the highest quality education in anatomy, histology, embryology, and reproductive biology across all academic levels. For MD students, we are committed to delivering rigorous theoretical and practical training in gross anatomy, histology, and embryology using modern teaching methods such as prosection, plastinated specimens, multimedia resources (including Anatomedia), and clinically oriented approaches like radioanatomy and surface anatomy, serving as the essential foundation for safe and effective medical practice. For MSc students, our mission is to deepen their understanding of anatomical sciences while introducing them to research methodologies, histotechniques, and teaching assistantships that prepare them for academic and laboratory careers. For PhD students, we provide advanced training in clinical and surgical anatomy, embryology, and independent research, enabling them to become future faculty members, lead research teams, and contribute original knowledge to the field.
In parallel, the department places special prominence on reproductive biology, training PhD graduates to work directly as clinical embryologists in ART and IVF laboratories. These graduates acquire hands-on competencies in gamete and embryo handling, insemination, cryopreservation, and embryo culture monitoring, addressing a critical national need for qualified embryology professionals within infertility treatment centers. Through team-based research, modern educational technologies, and improved laboratory infrastructure, we bridge the gap from basic science to bedside application, fulfilling our commitment to educational excellence, translational research, and societal impact.
